Four-star QB Oscar Rios commit No. 1 for Purdue in the 2026 cycle

Downey (Calif.) High On300 2026 quarterback Oscar Rios announced his commitment to Purdue on Friday.

The 6-foot-3, 170-pound chose the Boilermakers over an offer list that included Arizona State, California, Michigan State, Oregon State, Utah, Nebraska, Washington, Kansas and Virginia Tech among others.

Rios spent Tuesday and Wednesday in West Lafayette and committed to head coach Ryan Walters and offensive coordinator Graham Harrell.

“The city fit what I was looking for,” Rios told On3. “Before all this recruiting stuff I told my parents I wanted to find a city small so I can focus on my school and my sport. I feel like West Lafayette was the place. On top of that what Coach Harrell has been doing with quarterbacks, especially with young quarterbacks is great. We’ve been building that relationship and the relationship feels like more than player to coach.

“I talked to my parents. I just had that feeling. They were the first to jump on me and one of the first to offer me and it felt right when I was up there for three days.”

The On3 Industry tabs Rios as the nation’s No. 15 quarterback and No. 234 prospect overall. On3 is higher slotting him at No. 11 and No. 177 respectively.

“I’m excited,” Rios personal quarterback coach Danny Hernandez said. “Marcos Davila one of my kids over there. Oscar now. He absolutely loved his visit and fired up about it for sure.”

“Phenomenal athlete,” Hernandez continued. “The kid is super explosive and dynamic. He’s a dual-sport kid. He was a kid dunking in games as a ninth grader. You see that.”

As a sophomore Rios passed for 2,633 yards and 23 touchdowns with 767 yards rushing and seven more scores. Rios completed over 73 percent of his passes

“As good as he is right now he’s still really far from his ceiling,” Hernadez said. “I’m super fired up for what his future is going to look like.”

Rios is commit No. 1 for Purdue in the 2026 cycle.
