Xavi Simons offers eight-word transfer verdict as Arsenal target £51m Euro 2024 star

Netherlands star Xavi Simons has now given an eight-word verdict on his transfer with Arsenal, Bayern Munich and Barcelona interested in a move from Paris Saint-Germain.

The 21-year-old is a key cog in Ronald Koeman’s team in Germany after a brilliant season on loan to RB Leipzig. Simons excelled in the 2023/24 Bundesliga season with eight goals and 13 assists in 32 appearances. He has since started the Netherlands’ first two Euro 2024 ties.

Simons is yet to influence a goal in Germany after playing Poland and France in Group D. The attacking midfielder has also only scored once in his senior international career over 16 caps yet. But Simons’ form at RB Leipzig has many clubs including Arsenal interested in a transfer.

Xavi Simons addresses his future amid Arsenal targeting a transfer

Reports by Sport in May credited Arsenal with an interest in Simons’ transfer but must rival Bayern Munich and Barcelona. The Gunners and Der FCB are very keen to sign the 21-year-old, with Paris Saint-Germain even open to selling. But PSG want in excess of €60m (£51m).

Barcelona also see Simons as a promising target to complement the interior position having developed rapidly in recent years. The Amsterdam native would love to move to Camp Nou, as well. But Simons will not decide his next squad just yet and will make Arsenal et all wait.

Simons has simply stated via quotes by Fabrizio Romano that, “I will decide my future after the Euros”. The playmaker wants to focus his efforts on helping the Netherlands progress in Germany. Oranje sit top of Group D after two matches but are not confirmed for the last 16.

Xavi Simons thought he had the Netherlands’ winner vs France

Simons may be without a goal involvement at Euro 2024 but the Netherlands star has given glimpses of his talent that has Arsenal interested in his transfer. The playmaker often stayed busy against France, in particular, to find space and did place the ball in the back of the net.

The Netherlands thought they had what could have been the winning goal when Simons let rip. He reacted immediately to a loose ball on the edge of the area to riffle a volley into the far corner. But VAR Stuart Atwell rightly ruled their goal out as Denzel Dumfries was offside.

Arsenal could even hope Simons endures further frustration in Germany to help bring PSG’s price tag down for his transfer. The former Barcelona youth prospect proved his playmaking skill on loan to RB Leipzig last season with 10 goals and 15 assists in his total of 43 matches.

Arsenal’s winners and losers at Euro 2024

In this week’s episode of the Arsenal Insider Podcast, Will Jones and Rahul Lakhani debated the first few days of action at the European Championship. With Arsenal players such as Kai Havertz and Kieran Tierney experiencing mixed starts to the tournament, the pair assessed which Gunners were the winners and losers from the opening group stage ties at Euro 2024.

There was also some talk about transfers based on the Euros, with Arsenal-linked Amadou Onana’s display for Belgium discussed. While Leandro Trossard’s poor performance for the Red Devils was also analysed and Bukayo Saka’s sensational England showing was lauded.
