Harry Kane spotted in talks with Gareth Southgate as pressure rises ahead of England and Slovenia clash

Harry Kane has been spotted in talks with Gareth Southgate as England prepare for their Euro 2024 clash with Slovenia on Tuesday.

The Bayern Munich striker netted his first goal of the tournament on Tuesday as the Three Lions struggled in a 1-1 draw with Denmark at the Frankfurt Arena.

But Kane has been on the fringes of the action so far, with the forward previously anonymous in England's 1-0 victory over Serbia on matchday one.

The 30-year-old was actually hooked against the Danes, with Aston Villa's Ollie Watkins coming on in his place.

Watkins was unplayable last season, scoring 19 Premier League goals and registering 13 assists.

With Ivan Toney another option for Southgate, pressure is mounting on Kane to be more involved and fire England to glory.

And training pictures on Saturday show the 30-year-old in talks with Southgate, with both men looking concentrated as they talked things over.

Kane was also seen taking part in a rondo also consisting of Lewis Dunk, Jarrod Bowen and Kobbie Mainoo.

England have faced criticism after their lacklustre performances, with foreign media sticking the knife into Southgate's men earlier this week.

But the mood in the camp seems good, with Phil Foden spotted smiling as he was put through his paces.

England go up against Slovenia on Tuesday looking to maintain their unbeaten record in the competition.

They're virtually through to the knockout stages already, though a result against Slovenia is needed to officially guarantee their involvement in the next round.

Kane was critical of England on Thursday after their draw with Denmark.

"I think we're struggling both with and without the ball," he said when asked about the Three Lions making things difficult for themselves.

"I think the pressure in both games hasn't been right and with the ball hasn't been good enough.

"Everyone's dropping below their levels a little bit. It was tough out there, but we're calm.

"It wasn't our greatest game but we got away with a point."

Gary Lineker criticised Kane in the aftermath of the clash, insisting the Bayern star must improve.

"In all honestly, I think Harry Kane needs to do a lot better," said the BBC pundit.

"I think his movement was minimal, he didn’t look to go in behind but even when he did look to come in short, he’s just drifted short very lethargically, plodding short. And that’s not going to help.

"When you’re a striker you have two jobs, one is scoring goals which he is brilliant at.

"But I think he needs his manager to say ‘I need more from you Harry’.

"I would have expected that if I had that kind of performance. He’s up against three at the back so he has got to stretch that team. When you get the ball coming short, you don’t have to go 20 yards short. He’s not creating space for himself.

"He’s never really been a player that spins in behind but it’s the same thing.

"If someone is in midfield and you want it in behind you go that way first, then you go behind. That’s how you stretch the team.

"If you have someone who can stretch the team, it creates more space for the midfielders.

"In his defence, when that happened today there wasn’t midfielders pushing on. So it’s a whole team thing."
