David Villa has now backed Man City’s Julian Alvarez to do something very special at Copa America

Manchester City have a significant number of players in action this summer during the current international tournaments.

In addition to having more players (14) at Euro 2024 than any other Premier League side, the Blues also have one at Copa America.

After helping the Manchester club win a fourth Premier League trophy in a row last season, members of Pep Guardiola’s squad have been picked to represent the likes of England, Croatia, Argentina, Spain and Portugal among other countries.

With both tournaments underway, one former player, who knows what it takes to be successful for club and country, has made a big prediction about one of the 15 City players in action on the international stage.

David Villa has backed Julian Alvarez to deliver at Copa America

Appearing in a recent video shared on Goal’s official TikTok channel, David Villa was asked who he thinks will win the Golden Boot at Copa America this summer.

In response, the former Barcelona and Spain attacker picked Julian Alvarez.

Villa was then asked why he didn’t pick Lionel Messi, to which he said that he thinks his former Barcelona teammate will be more prominent in terms of setting up goals for the likes of Alvarez rather than scoring them himself.

Alvarez has the talent to be Argentina’s top scorer at Copa America

Having scored 36 goals in 108 appearances for City and eight in 32 senior appearances for his country, it shouldn’t surprise many City fans that Villa has chosen Alvarez as his pick for the Golden Boot.

The 24-year-old got his tournament off to a great start by scoring Argentina’s first goal in their 2-0 win over Canada in their first match of this summer’s competition.

With Stefan Ortega hailing the striker’s finishing ability back in April, it probably wouldn’t surprise many of the other figures in the City squad that Alvarez got his name on the scoresheet in his first game of the tournament.

Moving forward, if the City star were to win the Golden Boot at the end of the tournament, this would further increase his status as one of the most dangerous strikers in the world right now.
