Three vacancies on Downham Market Town Council offers chance to serve community

If you have ever wanted to serve your community as a local councillor then there’s an opportunity to do just that in Downham.

Nominations are now open for anyone interested in joining the town council with three seats up for grabs following the resignations last month of councillors Anna Incorvaia, Eve Tawfick, and Ali Buxton.

There is one seat in Downham’s North Ward and two in the East Ward.

Nomination forms can be obtained from the returning officer, King’s Court, Chapel Street, in Lynn and the deadline to get the paperwork completed and handed in is 4pm on Friday, June 28.

If there are more candidates than the seats available in each ward then an election will be held on Thursday, July 25.

Candidates need to make an appointment with the deputy returning officer in order to ensure their nomination can be handed in by the deadline.

Eve Tawfick is one of three councillors who have resigned from Downham Market Town Council.

Applications to register to vote must reach the electoral registration officer at King’s Court, Chapel Street, King’s Lynn, PE30 1EX by midnight on Tuesday, July 9. Applications can be made online: www.gov.uk/registertovote

New postal vote applications (including proxies applying to vote by post), changes or cancellations to existing postal, postal proxy or proxy votes must reach the electoral registration officer at the above address by 5pm on Wednesday, July 10.

The deadline for new applications to vote by proxy (not postal proxy) at this election, or new applications for Voter Authority Certificates must reach the electoral registration officer by 5pm on Wednesday, July 17.

Applications to vote by emergency proxy at this election on the grounds of physical incapacity or for work/service reasons must reach the electoral registration officer by 5pm on Thursday, July 25 July.

The physical incapacity must have occurred after 5pm on Wednesday, July 17 July 2024.

To apply on the grounds of work/service, the person must have become aware that they cannot go to the polling station in person also after that time and date.
