Report shares what Newcastle United must do before they can sign Everton's Dominic Calvert-Lewin

Newcastle United may face one more hurdle before completing the signing of Everton striker Dominic Calvert-Lewin.

According to Sky Sports, the 27-year-old has been watched by Eddie Howe for several years, and the two clubs are now in talks.

Calvert-Lewin has just one year left on his current Goodison Park deal and has yet to agree on an improved contract.

However, the latest news from the Telegraph has highlighted another stumbling block that could emerge before the Englishman’s move to the North East is finalised.

The Telegraph reports on Saturday, 22 June, that the Magpies are closing in on the Everton striker but must sell before signing the 27-year-old.

“A fee is still being negotiated, but there is confidence that a deal can be struck,” wrote Luke Edwards, The Telegraph’s Northern football writer.

He added: “While talks have been progressing, there is still some work to be done before a transfer is finalised. Newcastle also need to sell someone before they can buy.”

Transfer wheels are now in motion at Goodison Park

The news of Calvert-Lewin’s potential exit has been eased afterEverton announced the signing of Aston Villa midfielder Tim Iroegbunam.

Sky Sports reported that Toffees paid around £9million to the 20-year-old, who has signed a three-year deal at Goodison Park.

One player who could be headed in the opposite direction is Lewis Dobbin, with Everton and Villa still in advanced talks of the winger’s exit from Merseyside.

Furthermore, it’s believed the Blues are also interested in Newcastle United’s Yankuba Minteh. The Gambian winger departing St James’ Park could well be the catalyst for Calvert-Lewin’s exit.

An intriguing transfer window is in store, particularly if clubs continue to look into trade and swap deals in order to bend PSR constraints.
