Middlesbrough should rival Championship side for Chelsea starlet liked by Thomas Tuchel - opinion

Middlesbrough should join a Championship rival in the race for a Chelsea player this summer.

Middlesbrough have had a lot of success when it comes to signing players over the last few transfer windows.

The Championship outfit signed several quality players during 2023/24 in a bid to help Michael Carrick lead the side back to the Premier League.

Emmanuel Latte Lath was a revelation following his signing from Atalanta BC, scoring 16 goals in 30 games as he looked to fill the void left by Chuba Akpom.

Elsewhere, Seny Deing has proven himself as a quality number one, while Boro also turned a quick profit on now Aston Villa star, Morgan Rodgers.

Middlesbrough have had particular success on the loan front under Carrick, especially in the 2022/23 season.

Ryan Giles – who could be on his way back to Teesside this summer – along with Cameron Archer and Aaron Ramsey, all excelled during loan spells away from their parent club.

Middlesbrough should join Portsmouth in race for Chelsea gem Tino Anjorin

Middlesbrough should utilise the loan market once more this summer for one player in particular.

The man in question is 22-year-old Chelsea midfielder Tino Anjorin, who spent last term on loan in League One with Portsmouth.

Anjorin played 12 League One games during the club’s title-winning season before returning to Stamford Bridge.

While his campaign was hampered by injury, Portsmouth manager John Mousinho has spoken openly about wanting to re-sign the Englishman if a deal becomes available, as per Portsmouth News.

He said: “It’s something we’re monitoring though, and hopefully we’re first in line if anything becomes available.

“There’s hopefully scope because we know the player and we know what’s coming in. It’s one we’re open to, if he gets the opportunity to come back to the football club.”

Why Middlesbrough should sign Tino Anjorin

Anjorin’s game time at Chelsea has been limited to just five senior outings so far.

However, the attacking midfielder scored 16 goals and provided 12 assists in 35 games for the Blues’ U23 team.

Anjorin has spent time around the Chelsea first team and was praised heavily by ex-manager Thomas Tuchel, as per Chelsea’s official website.

Tuchel said: “He’s confident, he’s strong, he’s creative. He scores a lot of goals and assists a lot of goals in training.”

All of the above attributes make Anjroin an ideal signing for Carrick’s attack-minded Boro, who may need to add further midfield reinforcements this summer.

Aidan Morris is on his way to Teesside, but Middlesbrough are still lacking midfield depth.

Paddy McNair left the club after his contract expired this month, Daniel Barlaser is the subject of interest from Turkey and there are question marks over Riley McGree’s future as he enters the final 12 months of his contract.

As a result, Anjorin could be the perfect addition to Carrick’s midfield this summer, if Chelsea are open to letting him leave.
