Upon committing to USC in March, Warner Robins (Ga.) five-star EDGE Isaiah Gibson was considered a Georgia lean.

The in-state Bulldogs had already done plenty to cement their contender status for the 6-foot-3, 263-pounder, but it was the Trojans that landed the surprise pledge amidst what was — at the time — a monumental recruiting weekend for Lincoln Riley and Co.

Gibson’s commitment didn’t slow Kirby Smart and his staff down, however. UGA continued to press for Gibson and had him back on campus multiple times as a USC commit. Earlier this week, Gibson was one of two Peach State five-stars to back off their pledge to the Trojans. Quickly after, Georgia began trending for his commitment once again in the On3 Recruiting Prediction Machine.

Three picks have now been logged in favor of the in-state program this month as Georgia continues to charge for another elite recruiting class. Gibson, who took his official visit to Athens on May 31, canceled a scheduled OV to Oklahoma this weekend and is once again back with the Bulldogs instead.

“Georgia has had the most buzz around it going back to May when he was there for the Kirby Smart Scavenger Hunt,” On3 Director of Recruiting Chad Simmons said earlier this week. “He’s taken OVs to Georgia, Auburn and Tennessee since. And all three schools made impressions on him. Other schools know Georgia is the home state school, and that’s where it starts. But Tennessee gained some confidence last weekend with him on campus, and Auburn has to be taken seriously as well.”

Last month at the On3 Elite Series in Nashville, Gibson updated his recruitment as he was set to embark on a number of official visits:

“If I were to change, it would be location first, I would say,” Gibson told Simmons. “And just overall culture and environment of the players and the coaches that are there. So that would probably be the difference-maker. But as I said before, I don’t plan on decommitting or anything like that.”

Bulldogs trending for multiple in-state 5-stars

Georgia is now trending for Gibson, as well as Manchester (Ga.) Five-Star Plus+ defensive lineman Justus Terry, the No. 7 overall prospect in the nation who backed off his commitment to USC one day after Gibson.

The Dawgs currently own the No. 4 class in the nation, per the On3 Industry Team Recruiting Rankings. As they push for back-to-back top-ranked classes, Terry and Gibson remain at the top of their board.

Gibson is the No. 27 overall prospect and top-ranked EDGE in the 2025 cycle, according to the On3 Industry Ranking, a weighted average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies. He’s also the No. 7 player in Georgia.
