Yemen's Houthis claimed a successful attack in the Red Sea on the US Navy aircraft carrier Dwight D. Eisenhower. However, US military officials have refuted this information, according to the US Central Command (CENTCOM) on social media.
"Recent claims about a successful attack by Houthi forces on the aircraft carrier USS Dwight D. Eisenhower (CVN-69) are categorically false," the statement said.
The Command also added that over the past day, US military forces successfully destroyed three unmanned surface vessels belonging to the Houthis in the Red Sea.
It was noted that these vessels posed an immediate threat to the US, coalition forces, and merchant ships in the region. Measures were taken to protect freedom of navigation and ensure greater security in international waters for American, coalition, and merchant vessels.
"This continued malign and reckless behavior by the Iranian-backed Houthis threatens regional stability and endangers the lives of mariners across the Red Sea and Gulf of Aden," the statement said.
The Pentagon announced that after completing exercises in the Pacific Ocean, the aircraft carrier Theodore Roosevelt would head to the waters of the Middle East following Dwight D. Eisenhower.
On Saturday, June 22, militants from the Yemeni Houthi group claimed to have attacked the aircraft carrier Dwight D. Eisenhower in the Red Sea and that the operation was successful.
The terrorists also claimed a successful missile strike on the commercial vessel Transworld Navigator in the Arabian Sea, without specifying when the attack took place.
Attacks by Yemeni Houthis
Since the start of the conflict between Israel and Hamas in the Gaza Strip, the Iran-linked radical Islamic group of Houthis in Yemen has begun attacking commercial ships heading to the Red Sea through the Bab el-Mandeb Strait. Terrorists primarily target ships carrying cargo to Western countries.
During the eight months of the war, there have been over 70 attacks, in which the Houthis have sunk two ships, seized one, and killed at least three sailors. However, US military ships have successfully repelled almost daily attacks by militants and have repeatedly struck Houthi targets in Yemen.
