The Michigan Wolverines are the defending college football national champions. However, the 2024 team looks a lot different than last year’s team. For starters, the head coach has changed from Jim Harbaugh to Sherrone Moore.

During the SMSB National College Showcase, Moore discussed the differences between this year’s team heading into the summer and last year’s, revealing whether he has confidence in the 2024 roster.

“I feel the same way as I do now about the team that we had last year,” said Moore. “You go into summer; you go into training camp (and) you put your head down and work. Your goal is always to do that. Are you gonna win a national championship every year? You hope so.”

“Our goal is to just win every game. And we’re gonna try to do that every single way possible and go through the process of doing that. So we’re not gonna look forward, look at what games here, what’s in this game, win this game; we’re just going to take it day by day. You can only take one step in front of the other… we gotta take a step at a time.”

Outside of replacing Harbaugh, Michigan also lost two key weapons from its national championship-winning offense: star quarterback JJ McCarthy and 2023 Heisman front-runner running back Blake Corum. Still, Michigan is an elite program call, and they do have Moore at the helm; all he did last season was continue the Wolverines’ undefeated streak while Harbaugh was serving his suspensions.

Whether or not the Wolverines can repeat as national champions remains to be seen. However, their head coach has the utmost confidence in them heading into the summer as they prepare for their title defense season.

Moore reveals his favorite playcall from Michigan’s 2023 season

While there’s no shortage of plays that he looks back on fondly from the 2023 national championship season for Michigan, Moore does have a few that stand out. Naturally, they involve their team in executing in big moments.

One, though, stands above the rest, and it came when Moore was serving as the acting head coach on game days. The play in question: The halfback pass from Donovan Edwards to Colston Loveland for a first down to open the 4th quarter against Ohio State.

The Wolverines led 24-17 at the time, and Edwards’ connection to Loveland moved Michigan into Buckeye territory, setting up a field goal that would be key to giving the Wolverines enough margin.

“Probably the halfback pass with Donovan against Ohio State. Probably my favorite. I’ve got a lot of favorites. It’s hard,” Moore said to FOX Sports’ Joel Klatt.
