National media laud exit-linked Everton player who performed ‘brilliantly’ for his country yesterday

Everton have a whole host of players out on European Championship duty, seeking to attain glory with their country.

For most, silverware is a triumph that players often forego whilst at Goodison Park, such is the club’s adversity to success in recent years.

The Premier League is so far out of their reach, and even the FA and EFL Cup have a monopoly over it, with only one side from outside the traditional Big Six having won one of them since 2013.

So, it is unsurprising when Everton’s star men seek greener pastures after a starring performance with their country.

Amadou Onana shines for Belgium

Following in the footsteps of Romelu Lukaku, Amadou Onana loves to run his mouth after shining for Belgium.

However, given the widespread interest in the midfielder, who does not quite fit Sean Dyche’s direct system, it is widely accepted that his exit would be amicable for all involved.

So, it is good to see him shining for his country, and thus earning the deserved praise from the national media whilst Onana’s links to Barcelona persist.

GOAL would hand him a 7/10 in their post-match player ratings, as Belgium cruised to victory over Romania, writing: ‘On the whole, the Everton man broke up play nicely and looked confident on the ball, while releasing others further up the pitch.’

BBC Sport would concur with that rating, whilst CaughtOffside offered further adulation alongside an 8/10 rating: ‘Set the tempo brilliantly in the midfield with some pin-point passing and driving runs. Made three tackles and four recoveries to disrupt Romania. It’s little wonder he’s wanted by Arsenal.’

Amadou Onana adds further money to Everton’s price tag

It’s quite refreshing that, despite it seemingly being common knowledge that Onana will depart this summer, there is little fanfare being made.

Naturally, the Belgian international has made a few questionable comments in the media which have riled up Evertonians, but other than that most are happy to see him depart.

Especially after Everton signed Tim Iroegbunam from Aston Villa just yesterday, with the 20-year-old midfielder showing alarming similarities in the silky yet strong showings he has put up for both his parent club and QPR whilst on loan.

So, to watch Onana perform for his country, whilst this might have hurt in the past, is actually a good thing.

After all, with each passing performance where he shines, the numerous suitors chasing the 22-year-old see a slight price hike every time.

By the end of the tournament, this one sale could finally solve all of Everton’s PSR woes for good.
