'He was exquisite': ITV pundit left in awe of 'devastating' £55m Man City star at Euro 2024 yesterday

One Manchester City star left ITV pundit Karen Carney blown away at Euro 2024 on Saturday night.

It has been a really entertaining tournament so far, with goals aplenty and several groups now looking really tight after a couple of games played.

We have seen some Manchester City players turn in some really good performances so far.

Manuel Akanji has looked solid for Switzerland, while Nathan Ake has also had two impressive showings for the Netherlands.

On Saturday night, Belgium played their second match against Romania, and there were starts for City duo Kevin De Bruyne and Jeremy Doku.

Both players had tremendous performances – and pundit Carney was left amazed by Doku.

Doku has had a really strong start to Euro 2024.

Belgium lost their opening game against Slovakia, but the youngster was a shining light in that 1-0 defeat. He did play a poor pass in that game that led to Romania’s goal by Ivan Schranz, but on the whole he was very positive.

Last night against Romania, Doku really turned it on and was a complete menace.

The star was constantly getting the ball and driving into the box, and after the game, a statistic came to light showing that Doku has now made more take-ons than any other player at the tournament with nine.

Only three players have created more chances than him.

Karen Carney, who was on punditry duty for ITV, was left blown away by City’s £55 million man.

She said at half-time: “He’s been unbelievable. His damage has been done in the final third where we want to see him. He’s been devastating. He’s played quite similar to how he does at City.

“Every time he’s in the final third, he’s not crossing it, he’s passing it. ‘Where’s my centre-forward?’ Similar to how he does with Haaland at City.”

Belgium ran out 2-0 winners against Romania, and Carney heaped more praise on Doku after the full-time whistle.

She added: “Like I said before the match we just wanted to see what his end product was like, and it was absolutely brilliant tonight. Really influential, particularly in the first-half.

“Every time he got into the penalty area he was looking for that pass, looking for the link player. He was exciting, energised, brave. I don’t know why they left him one vs one. When he’s driving at you in the penalty area he’s an absolute nightmare. Overall, I thought he was exquisite tonight.

Doku looks fantastic

So far in Belgium’s two matches, Doku has looked really good.

His unpredictability makes him so difficult to keep tabs on, and his take-on statistic just shows that defenders are having real trouble coming up against him so far.

Belgium are not expected to win this tournament, with other nations having stronger squads overall.

But while they have Doku and also De Bruyne playing as well as hey are, then perhaps there is an outside chance for them to final win something.
