'Will have to fork out': Alan Nixon claims Derby County are 'keen' on signing 'brilliant' promotion winner

Derby County are still waiting to make their first signing of the summer.

Corey Blackett-Taylor’s loan deal was made permanent after joining in January, but the Rams are yet to bring in any further additions following their promotion.

Derby County have parted ways with the likes of Conor Hourihane, Dwight Gayle and Joe Wildsmith this month, with the latter’s exit coming as a huge surprise after winning the League One Golden Glove.

The goalkeeper leavesPride Park after two years, leaving Josh Vickers as their only senior shot-stopper.

Filling the void in between the sticks will be a priority for Paul Warne and it has now been reported that they could look to a recently promoted club for their new signing.

Daniel Iversen is wanted by Derby County

Reporting via his Patreon, journalist Alan Nixon said: “Leicester City’s forgotten keeper Daniel Iversen is wanted on loan by Championship new boys Derby County.

“Iversen is back from a spell on Stoke and poised to be shipped out again – with Rams keen if they can get near to his wages.

“Ironically the Dane is due a pay hike with Leicester back in the Premier League and Derby will have to fork out a fair chunk of his salary to get him.”

Can the Rams afford the Leicester City star’s wages?

There is no indication of how much Iversen is due to be paid in the top flight, though it is believed he was raking in around £20,000-per-week last season.

Given his lack of game-time at the King Power Stadium, Leicester would surely prefer to sell him if it means not having to give him such a pay rise.

If Derby were to convince them to loan him out though, they would surely have to pay five figures a week to bring him to the Midlands.

With Hourihane off the books, it is thought that Curtis Nelson is now the club’s highest earner – raking in a cool £8,400-per-week.

While the Rams will likely have to fork out more cash if they want to lure in Championship quality players, making Iversen their highest earner would be a big move for a goalkeeper.

Derby will surely face significant competition for his signature too, with the ‘brilliant’ shot-stopper enjoying great success in the Championship with Preston and Stoke.
