'Monster': £30k-a-week star reacts to what Wolves teammate just did with his country at Euro 2024

Wolves have three representatives on show at Euro 2024, seeing one star applauded by his teammate for his display on Saturday night.

Gary O’Neil would have had his attention taken away from the transfer window on Saturday evening, as two Wolves players were in action for Portugal.

Nelson Semedo and Pedro Neto were substituted on in the second half of Portugal’s 3-0 win against Turkey, seeing Roberto Martinez’s side qualify for the knockouts of the Euros.

While Neto was handed 45 minutes of action after his impressive cameo in the game prior, Semedo played 22 minutes of Portugal’s victory.

Joao Gomes praised Nelson Semedo on Instagram after Portugal display

After the game, Semedo took to Instagram to share his thoughts on the game, posting a photo of himself with the caption ‘Round of 16 here we come! For Portugal, together’.

Amongst those who interacted with the right-back’s post was Wolves teammate Joao Gomes, who dubbed the defender a ‘monster’ for his display.

The £30k-a-week Brazilian, who is preparing for his country’s Copa America opener on Tuesday, was perhaps being supportive to his teammate, who had an average night for Portugal.

In the 22 minutes that Semedo featured, the 30-year-old recorded nine touches on the ball, lost possession twice, and failed to win any duels but, did complete 100% of his six attempted passes, via Sofascore.

The Wolves star has played a slim part in Portugal’s journey so far, as Martinez’s favoured XI sees Joao Cancelo as the first-choice right-back.

Now that Portugal have progressed to the knockout stages, there will be hope that the full-back will earn further opportunities at the tournament.

Wolves will be keeping a firm eye on Semedo at Euro 2024

While Semedo’s attention will be on the Euros, those at Molineux will be considering what to do about the 30-year-old’s future.

Despite O’Neil being ‘desperate’ for Semedo to remain at Wolves, there is a chance that the Portugal international will leave this summer as he nears a crossroads.

The former Barcelona ace will soon enter the final year of his contract, giving the boss an ultimatum on whether to extend his current deal or sell him to generate funds.

Semedo’s performances at the Euros could impact how much Wolves could acquire for a possible sale this summer, with both strong and weak displays bound to accumulate attention.
