England boss Gareth Southgate facing big injury crisis with new problem revealed ahead of Slovenia clash

England boss Gareth Southgate is facing an injury with Kieran Trippier reportedly nursing a calf injury ahead of their Euro 2024 clash with Slovenia on Tuesday.

Trippier has started for the Three Lions in matches against Serbia and Denmark, with the tournament favourites picking up four points from a possible six.

England are already without Luke Shaw amid talk the Manchester United left-back could be sent home from the tournament.

And The Telegraph say Trippier is currently nursing a calf injury ahead of Tuesday night's crunch clash with Slovenia.

It is currently unclear whether the issue is related to the calf injury that saw Trippier miss the end of the season with Newcastle.

The defender has 'played through the pain' out in Germany so far, with the 33-year-old completing the full 90 minutes in both matches.

Southgate, it's claimed, had wanted to rest Trippier earlier on in the tournament.

But with Shaw out, and with England struggling in both matches, he's not been taken out of the starting XI.

With England potentially two left-backs down, it hands Southgate a big decision to make.

Joe Gomez could be brought in, with the Liverpool star capable of playing in that position despite being a centre-back by trade.

In order to manage Trippier's situation, Southgate has reportedly been swapping him in and out of left-back with Gomez and Ezri Konsa.

Trippier has also been 'taking precautions' in order to avoid worsening his injury.

The Newcastle star was involved in a heated discussion with Kyle Walker during training on Saturday.

Phil Foden acted as peacemaker, though it's believed both Trippier and Walker were all smiles just minutes later.

Southgate could make numerous changes for England's next match given their patchy form.

Conor Gallagher is pushing to start, with Trent Alexander-Arnold struggling in midfield.

Adam Wharton and Kobbie Mainoo, of Crystal Palace and Manchester United respectively, are also in contention to start.

Cole Palmer and Anthony Gordon are yet to play a single moment of football this summer, with both players keen to get onto the pitch.

And with Harry Kane struggling, Ollie Watkins could be preferred to the Bayern Munich star up top.

Kane faced the media on Sunday and insisted England players were ignoring the criticism over their displays.

“I try and stay away from it as much as possible but it’s impossible to not see some of the stuff nowadays," he said.

“Everyone’s entitled to their own opinion and when a major international tournament is on it’s going to be heightened.

“If I’m being honest, am I playing as well as I can? No.

“But I didn't score in group at World Cup in the group stages, so I’m one ahead already now.

"I don’t get too high, or too low, I just go onto the next one.”

England last faced Slovenia back in 2017, with the Three Lions winning 1-0 following a late goal from Kane at Wembley.
