NASCAR insider evaluates chances Tyler Reddick returns to RCR if situation changes at 23XI

Tyler Reddick’s NASCAR career has taken off since he joined 23XI Racing from Richard Childress Racing in 2023.

And though he has no reason to leave 23XI, what if something happened and his situation at the race team changed. Would RCR welcome him back with open arms? Would Reddick even entertain it? Bob Pockrass of FOX Sports recently evaluated if either would be a possibility, seeing as another driver, Kyle Busch to be exact, has been rumored to potentially be aiming for a Hendrick Motorsports or Joe Gibbs Racing return in the future.

“If for some reason things went sour for Reddick at 23XI, it is possible he could return to RCR,” Pockrass wrote. “Yes, there were hard feelings with the way it was handled. But Reddick has that racer mentality that RCR folks love.”

If Reddick and RCR were to ever get in business again, there would certainly need to be a mending of the fences. Even then, who knows how realistic it would be.

Tyler Reddick, RCR relationship damaged beyond repair?

Reddick exploded onto the scene in 2022, his final season with RCR, securing three checkered flags and finishing 14th in the points standings. Though he was highly successful in the No. 8 car, it didn’t stop him from signing a deal with 23XI in the summer of 2022 beginning with the 2024 campaign, which surprised Richard Childress.

Then came that September, when RCR announced that Busch would join the team in 2023. Childress notified Reddick just one hour before the official announcement that Busch would be taking over the No. 8 car. RCR would obtain a third charter for Reddick to pilot during his final season with the team — at least that was the plan. That likely didn’t sit well with Reddick. And the following month, RCR bought out the remainder of his contract, allowing him to join 23XI a year early.

It was messy, yes, but Reddick has benefitted from the move. He finished a career high sixth in the points standings last season and has been one of the most consistent drivers this season. He won at Talladega and has tallied 10 top 10s and six top 5s through 17 races.
