3 breakfast staples naturopathic doctor warns against

Neuroscientist Dr. Robert Love and naturopathic doctor Heather Sandison list three commonly consumed breakfast items that do great harm to the brain due to what they are made of.

Cinnamon Rolls or Cinnabon

The sweet dish is lucky to be identified as a breakfast item, but eating it first thing in the morning or anytime during the day isn’t advisable.

The doctor says cinnamon rolls and cinnamon are made of a lot of sugar, gluten, and fat – three ingredients detrimental to brain health.

Not only is ultra-processed food linked to weight gain and mental issues, but excessive sugar and fat cause inflammation, which isn’t good for the brain.

Seed oils

The doctor advises against eating foods prepared with different kinds of seed oils, commonly used in restaurants and fast food.

“The seed oils create bad fat,” says the doctor. Previously, The Focus spoke to a nutritionist to get a better insight on the best oils to use in cooking that is beneficial for health, and she offered a list of options to choose from, depending on what you’re preparing.

Bread and pasta

Dr. Heather says the most common breakfast items – bread and pasta – aren’t the best options for the brain. Not only are they processed, but they also consist of gluten, which is “highly genetically modified.”
