The European Union will immediately begin work on the 15th package of sanctions against Russia, according to Finnish Foreign Minister Elina Valtonen, citing her statement before the EU Council summit.

"I appreciate the 14th sanctions package. Yes, the negotiations were lengthy. But the sanctions package covers a very broad spectrum. And, of course, all countries have their viewpoints that needed to be considered," she said.

She added that work on the 15th package of European sanctions against Russia would start immediately.

"I am very pleased that the package is already in place, and of course, the work on the next sanctions package will begin immediately, so I am confident that in the meantime, we will also be able to update these lists of entities under sanctions," the minister said.

Sanctions against Russia

The EU has been steadily increasing its sanctions pressure on Russia since it launched a full-scale invasion of Ukraine in February 2022. The implementation of extensive sanctions, specifically 13 packages, has significantly impacted the Russian economy, greatly weakening its potential and undermining the country's military power.

On June 24, the EU Council approved the 14th package of anti-Russian sanctions. For more details, read the RBC-Ukraine's coverage.
