Belarus' sudden combat readiness check does not pose any immediate threat to Ukraine

"Belarus has conducted similar drills and readiness checks multiple times before,” he said.

“Our intelligence units are closely monitoring activities in Belarus to assess any potential threat to Ukraine.”

“We have not yet observed any movement of equipment or personnel near our border, including from Belarusian army units," Demchenko said.

Russia currently does not have sufficient forces in Belarus for a new invasion of Ukraine.

Russian units previously stationed in Belarus for "exercises" have been withdrawn and no new forces have been introduced, though Russia could transfer units to Belarus at any time, he added.

"This region remains a priority and a potential threat for us. We are reinforcing the entire length of the border with Belarus, from Volyn to Chernihiv,” he said.

“Strengthening the border and adjacent areas ensures that all our soldiers, including those from the Border Guard Service, are fully prepared to repel any attack and counter any threat."

Belarus declared on June 21 the start of a sudden check to assess the readiness of its Armed Forces units and formations to carry out their designated tasks.

This check involves military units and sub-units from operational commands, special operations forces, missile troops, and artillery, as well as the Belarusian Air Force and air defense forces.
