Powerhouse striker 'free to leave' La Liga outfit, he's been watched by Rangers before

Rangers have targeted a very specific profile of player so far in the summer transfer window.

Philippe Clement has spoken before of his desire to bring players who can contribute to bringing trophies to Ibrox now, but who can also be developed and sold for a profit further down the line.

The manager has confirmed that experience will be signed to replace those who have left with Rangers getting the chance to sign a striker who has caused the defence problems in the past.

Rangers have chance to sign Sory Kaba after Europa League clash

Clement has a very noticeable formation that features two wingers and a number 10.

Cyriel Dessers led the line almost by default and is a totally different type of player to Danilo who will be a welcome sight in a Rangers jersey again next season.

They might have different approaches to how they play, however, they are still asked to do the same things; link play, run the channels, hold the ball up and get into the box to score goals.

With Kemar Roofe departed, they will need to find a replacement capable of ticking all of these boxes.

According to Darren Witcoop of The Mirror, Sory Kaba is “free to leave” La Liga outfit Las Palmas, and he could be an excellent rotation option for Rangers.

He impressed for Midtjylland against Steven Gerrard’s side in 2019 over two end-to-end qualifying legs for the Europa League group stages and Rangers analysis team will have watched him in great detail.

Kaba fits Philippe Clement profile for Rangers number nine

At 6ft 3 inches tall, Kaba is a physical presence in both boxes but has a technical ability that makes him more than just a target man.

Last season didn’t quite go to plan in terms of goals and assists, he won’t be the first to struggle when taking the step up in level though.

The 27-year old scored consistently for Midtjylland and when he moved to Cardiff City after a falling out at the Danish outfit.

Available for a reported £2m, Kaba would be a no risk signing in terms of quality and cost.

As he said on his announcement at Las Palmas, he also has the right attitude:

“The fan reaction after my arrival was surprising; I left Spain at a young age after my time at Elche. I know what it takes to play in La Liga, and this is a dream for me.

“I’d want to thank the club and the fans for their warm welcome” he expressed his gratitude.

“The most important thing for me is the team. A forward always wants to score goals, but if I can assist to secure three points, that’s the most important. I’m the one who needs to adapt to the team; I’m here to help and score as many goals as possible.

“Every team has one or two forwards of my profile; I’m the one who needs to adjust to what the coach asks for and his playing philosophy.”

There is a big rebuild that needs to be carried out this summer and experienced players tend not to come cheap.

A 21-times capped international for this sort of price makes a lot of sense, especially when Nils Koppen is working on a budget.
