Election denier seeking Lauren Boebert's seat celebrates 'low voter turnout'

An election denier running for a seat being vacated by Rep. Lauren Boebert (R-CO) said he expects to win the Republican primary thanks to low voter turnout.

During an interview on Real America's Voice, Ron Hanks explained why he got in the race for Colorado's 3rd District after Boebert decided to run in the 4th District.

"Donald Trump doesn't have to be in this fight," Hanks opined, noting that he had previously won the district in a primary race. "I won the district and I think we are in a very good spot right now to win it again and to hold it conservative."

"And President Trump needs that very, very sincerely," he observed.

Hanks, who attended Trump's "Stop the Steal" rally on Jan. 6, said he "had to step in" when Boebert switched districts.

"I have no aspersions or statements about her moving," he insisted. "If it was the right thing for her, then God bless her for it."

The candidate predicted he would win because Republican voters were not mailing in their ballots early.

"And what we are seeing so far, Steve, is actually a low voter turnout in the sense of mailing it in," he told Real America's Voice host Steve Gruber. "And I believe that bodes very well for us as grassroots conservatives, because grassroots conservatives tend to hold their ballots until the end and even drop them off on election day, which is tomorrow."

Even though the primary is not over, Democratic candidate Adam Frisch has sought to bolster Hanks' profile by running ads against him. Frisch was expected to face Republican attorney Jeff Hurd in the general election if Hanks loses the primary.

"It is a gamble," political analyst Mike Dino told CBS News Colorado. "And you know, possibly, the numbers don't add up for Democrats over there. Frisch is getting a second shot at this race. And maybe that'll help him out. But it really comes down to, you know, if you put a good Republican in there as a nominee, they probably have the best chance of getting elected."

Frisch lost his previous general election campaign against Boebert in 2022 by less than 500 votes.
