Just moments ago, 2026 Harbor City (Calif.) Narbonne quarterback Jaden O’Neal made his college decision to pick the Sooners. He chose Oklahoma over offers from Ohio State, Texas, Miami, Ohio State, Florida State, Oregon, and many others. O’Neal sat down with SCOOPHD to talk about his decision for Oklahoma.

For O’Neal it was only over the past month that people started to take note of his interest in the Sooners. However for the nation’s No. 78 prospect in the On3 Industry rankings he was almost immediately blown away by the Sooners saying his first tripe ‘broke the standard’.

“It definitely broke the standard. Before I initially went to Oklahoma, Miami had set the standard high – originally recruiting me since the eighth grade,” O’Neal said to SoonerScoop’s Eddie Radosevich. “Once I got to OU they just broke my scale. Seeing the facilities, interacting with the coaching staff and talking to them it really mesmerized my family and I. It was something that stuck with me and altered my decision from originally to Miami to Oklahoma.”

Not surprisingly Brent Venables was a huge piece of the puzzle in making a big impression on the Sooners behalf.

“[I] have to start with the General, coach Brent Venables. [He is] very honest, [a] very authentic guy. He’s somebody who when I end up getting to campus I see myself looking up to – not only as a coach but as a man as well. He is definitely one of the bigger pieces as to why I wanted to come to Oklahoma.”

O’Neal was offered by Oklahoma back on Feb. 6 and the Sooners got him to campus almost exactly two months later when he arrived on April 8. Over the past few months he has made trips to Texas, Florida State, Colorado, Ohio State, Miami, Auburn, and Nebraska. Still though his heart always seemed to remain with the Sooners.

“Initially during my first unofficial visit I had received a chip from coach Venables after my first meeting with him. Just leaving the building after the first time, after the first time we had left and after the second time we kind of let him know what it was. The second time was something we had to tell him – the standard was set so high.”

Expect much more from SoonerScoop.com on Jaden O’Neal’s commitment.
