Texas battled programs across the country for 2025 San Francisco (Calif.) St. Ignatius College Prep OL John Mills, but the big 6-foot-6, 300-plus pounder wanted to call Austin home. Mills committed to Texas, choosing the Longhorns over Washington, Cal, USC, Florida, and Nebraska.

Mills is ranked as the No. 416 overall prospect, the No. 32 interior O-lineman, and the No. 35 prospect in California in the On3 Industry Ranking. On3 ranks Mills as the No. 26 interior O-lineman and the No. 33 player in California.
How he fits at Texas:
Mills is already a big kid, with near college-ready size at 6-foot-6, 290 pounds and quick feet for a big man. The schools after him are a good tell of his underrated athleticism (Michigan, Cal, Florida, and Texas). All those schools are also programs that like size and mobility at guard, which is where Mills is most likely to end up. In high school he’s a powerful tackle that protects the edge well in pass protection and roots out ends with relative ease. At the next level he’ll have the quickness to be good in the zone running game or as a puller once he’s added the requisite strength. – Ian Boyd
Coach Says:
Strengths –– A large human at 6’6” and 300 lbs. Does not have any obvious bad weight. Good upper body strength and quick feet. Moves well on zone and reach blocking. Quick enough to pull effectively and climb to the second level. Very strong hands that he places well in the run game. Drives the bus once engaged. Will finish blocks much of the time. He’s young for the class and may still grow.
Areas for Concern — Will get sloppy with the feet at times once engaged and prefer to toss the defender rather than block through the whistle. Pass protection needs a bit of work. The hands are very inconsistent and seem uncoordinated. Will get off balance at times (opponent film) and will overset but struggle to change direction. This is less of an issue if he moves inside (which I think he should).
