Brazilian national media give verdict on Alisson's Copa America display after disappointing draw vs Costa Rica

The Copa America is well and truly underway for Liverpool’s South American quartet.

While Euro 2024 has been delighting fans across Europe, the America’s own version has been waiting patiently to get going.

Argentina kicked things off with a win – and a good performance from Alexis Mac Allister – while Darwin Nunez bagged himself a lovely goal for Uruguay on Sunday.

But no tournament really feels complete until Brazil have made their bow. Heading into the competition in mixed form, Tuesday morning was the time for the Selecao to turn up.

As they often do, Liverpool had representation in the starting XI. Unfortunately though, it was another frustrating 90 minutes for Alisson Becker and his teammates.

Brazilian media disappointed with Costa Rica draw

Up against World Cup and Copa America holders Argentina, Brazil are not the favourites for this summer’s tournament in the USA.

Dorival Junior’s team have had a poor 18 months or so and look a shadow of sides of the past.

Perhaps it should have been no surprise to see them struggle in their opener against Costa Rica in California, then.

Despite having some world class players in the team, it seems that Brazil simply could not get going. They laboured to a 0-0 draw, with Alisson obviously playing the full 90 minutes.

Alisson had a really good season for Liverpool despite some frustration over injuries. And with Ederson out with a problem of his own, he is now the undisputed number one for his country.

From a goalkeeping point of view, the 31-year-old will be satisfied with his lot on Tuesday. A clean sheet means Alisson did his job at least.

And according to Brazilian outlet Globo, that was the case. Scoring him a six out of ten, they claim that the Liverpool No.1 was a ‘mere spectator’ to the match.

Despite not having to make a single save though, it’s reported that Alisson still ‘showed his usual quality’ with the ball at his feet. With scores as low four point five out of ten elsewhere in the team though, it’s safe to say it was an otherwise disappointing display from Brazil.

What’s the latest on Alisson transfer talk?

As well as turning out for his country this summer, there continues to be some unsettling transfer talk surrounding Alisson.

The big Brazilian is undoubtedly still one of Liverpool’s most important players as they head into the Arne Slot era.

One of the biggest personalities in the Liverpool squad, it would be an enormous blow to lose Alisson.

Still, that has not stopped the transfer tittles from coming. Alisson is reportedly still a target for the Saudi Arabian clubs, who have seemingly held talks with him over a move.

Thankfully, the latest is that Alisson has pushed back on those conversations and is reportedly happy at Liverpool.

For now, it seems much more likely that Liverpool’s No.1 will be staying put next season. Until that window closes though, we’ll continue to be nervous. In the meantime, better will be expected from Brazil.
