The first batch of ammunition purchased as part of the Czech initiative has arrived in Ukraine, according to Czech Prime Minister Petr Fiala.

"The first shipment of ammunition from our initiative arrived in Ukraine some time ago. We are doing what it takes," he wrote.

Czech initiative

In April 2024, Czechia announced its initiative to procure artillery shells for Ukraine from third-world countries. According to the plan, 800,000 rounds of ammunition were to be purchased under this program. Czechia invited its partners to join the initiative.

The initial batches were intended to be delivered to Ukraine in May. However, issues arose, causing delays in the shipment.

Michal Strnad, head of the Czech defense company CSG, pointed to the poor quality of the ammunition as the reason for the delays.
