Clement true to his word as 'impressive' 21-yo gets Rangers deal

Rangers will have a huge overhaul this summer with players arriving to contribute immediately and others who will be with one eye on the future.

Philippe Clement has shown that he isn’t afraid to make big decisions and that he also isn’t afraid to put his faith in the academy.

Despite looking like he might not have a future at Ibrox, Rangers have rewarded Robbie Fraser’s impressive appearances for the first-team last season with a new deal in another sign that the manager is true to his word.

Philippe Clement true to word as Robbie Fraser gets Rangers deal

The big Belgian has spoken before about how important it is for the academy to play a key part in the club’s success and the player trading model. Not every player will go for the same money as Nathan Patterson but there has to be a pathway that opens up this possibility.

Speaking after the new two-year deal was announced, Clement once again explained the importance:

“We are delighted that Robbie has committed his future to Rangers.

“The Academy is fundamental to the future success of the club, and Robbie has impressed with his quality and tireless work ethic.

“He joins a strong crop of young players in the squad ahead of the 2024/25 campaign, and I look forward to his continued development as an individual.”

Fraser has earned Rangers promotion amid left-back uncertainty

Clement is right. They don’t have to be world beaters but they have to be able to contribute in a meaningful manner.

Fraser might not be good enough to play every week and one day be sold for £10m but he has the right attitude and mentality needed to play for Rangers.

As a fan, he would do anything to play for the club and his impressive display in the first bleep test of pre-season training won’t have gone unmissed by the management team.

With Borna Barisic departed, there was always going to be a gap to fill and Jefte has been brought in to compete with Ridvan Yilmaz.

What complicates matters is the transfer interest in Ridvan.

Clement would then have to decide if he could trust Fraser and Jefte to carry the responsibility.

One thing is certain, the B team captain wouldn’t let the manager down in terms of how hard he works.
