Bosun Lawal explains what sold him on moving to Celtic

Celtic boss Brendan Rodgers has a lot to ponder with pre-season set to commence and will take time to examine internal options in his squad.

The Bhoys face Ayr United next Friday in their first friendly match of the campaign, and there is hope that supporters can see some fringe talent in action at Somerset Park.

One man who has been tipped to make an impact at Celtic this year is Republic of Ireland Under-21 international Bosun Lawal, who is back at Parkhead following a successful loan stint at Fleetwood Town.

Per Transfermarkt, the 21-year-old thrived south of the border in a new-found midfield role, registering six goals and two assists in 47 appearances across all competitions.

Generating plenty of excitement among the Celtic support, he has now opened up on what sold him on moving to Glasgow back in 2021.

Bosun Lawal explains why he joined Celtic from Watford

Speaking on the TRAINING121PODCAST, Lawal explained what sold him on moving to Celtic from Watford when he joined the club back in 2021.

He explained: “I got offered a pro (contract) at Watford, but I just wanted to try something; I wanted to be stretched because I think I was too comfortable at that stage and wanted to get stretched.

“When Celtic came, a couple of other clubs came in; as soon as I heard Celtic, being an Irish person, you know how big Celtic is so I thought ‘Yeah, I’m going to go to Celtic’ and actually challenge myself, move again, experiencing a different town, different culture so yeah that’s what I did, moved to Celtic.”

It takes bravery to make such a decision at 18 years of age; regardless, Lawal’s choice could pay off as Brendan Rodgers is keen to run the rule over the Irishman in pre-season.

Sky Bet Championship clubs, including Derby County, Portsmouth, and Queens Park Rangers, haveall shown interest in the Hoops’ talent.

Either way, it appears that he will be given a chance to impress ahead of the new campaign, which could pave the way for Lawal to land a slot in midfield for the forthcoming term.
