The EU countries have agreed to nominate Ursula von der Leyen for a second term as head of the European Commission, Suddeutsche Zeitung reports.

The news agency learned about the agreement on Tuesday from the negotiating circles.

Elections to European Parliament

In early May, the EU held elections to the European Parliament, which must be approved by the head of the European Commission. The Parliament can vote only after a majority of EU heads of state and government formally nominate candidates.

This process is expected to be completed in the Council of Europe on September 27 and 28, where the package of leadership positions is likely to be distributed among the dominant political forces.

Earlier it was reported that EU Council President Charles Michel proposed to exclude European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen from the meeting to discuss the highest positions in the EU.
