Baseball: 3-hit Morishita pitches Carp past Swallows

Masato Morishita outhit his opposition in a two-hit shutout, pitching the Central League-leading Hiroshima Carp to a 3-0 win over the Yakult Swallows on Tuesday.

Morishita (6-3) needed just 91 pitches to complete the game as he struck out four and walked none at rainy Mazda Stadium. The Carp pitcher went 3-for-3 at the plate but needed some help from Yakult's defense to get the win.

The Carp broke up the scoreless tie in the sixth inning against Swallows lefty Keiji Takahashi (2-4) on a two-out run-scoring error. Carp catcher Tsubasa Aizawa followed with a two-run single to put Morishita in the driver's seat.

The Carp pitcher raised his batting average this season to .429.

Among other games on Tuesday, Kohei Arihara (7-3) took a no-hit bid into the seventh inning for the SoftBank Hawks in their 7-2 win over the Orix Buffaloes.
