'I'm told...': Journalist claims one team are 'continuing in talks' to sign £400k Wrexham transfer target

Wrexham kicked off their transfer business with a bang and Phil Parkinson will now be looking to add to his squad with further additions.

Wrexham will struggle to find a bigger bargain than the one they landed on Saturday.

Rob McElhenney and Ryan Reynolds were able to prise goalkeeper Arthur Okonkwo back to the club following his magnificent loan spell from Arsenal.

Phil Parkinson had to be patient to get the 22-year-old through the door permanently but signing him on a three-year deal and beating Championship clubs to his signature has shown their intent.

The Reds can be satisfied that Okonkwo is signed well ahead of their pre-season tour, although Parkinson will want to use the hype surrounding his move as momentum to make further big signings.

Wrexham target Marc Leonard is wanted by Vancouver Whitecaps

Following the arrival of Okonkwo, attention will now turn to plugging other areas of their squad, namely in centre-back and midfield.

Wrexham released captain Luke Young at the end of his contract, leaving Parkinson needing reinforcements and competition for the likes of Elliot Lee and Andy Cannon.

Reports have linked Brighton midfielder Marc Leonard with a move to Wales; a £400,000 fee was mentioned, with the Reds needing to break their transfer record to land the 22-year-old.

Wrexham aren’t the only side interested in as multiple Championship, League One and clubs abroad are all interested in the “outstanding” Scottish talent.

Interest in Leonard has now reached new heights as the man who starred on loan at Northampton Town last term sees his Seagulls contract expire in 2025.

An emerging report suggested Danish Copenhagen and MLS side Los Angeles were in for him while The Athletic journalist Tom Bogert claims Vancouver Whitecaps are ‘continuing talks’ for the player.

Although he says ‘nothing is done yet’, Wrexham face a battle on their hands to secure his signature but what a coup it would be.

Marc Leonard would be an excellent capture

Leonard was one of the best midfielders in League One last term.

A deep-lying playmaker with an eye for goal from range, the young Scottish midfielder produced five goals and six assists in 46 appearances for the Cobblers.

The impressive Brighton talent showed a complete side to his game in the third tier, recording a pass completion of 82%, averaging the most tackles per game in the Northampton squad (2.5) and the most interceptions (1.5).

He produced those numbers for a side that finished 14th in the league, so imagine the levels he’d reach for a side gunning for promotion.

That is a position Wrexham are aiming to be in and adding Leonard to their midfield, alongside the incredible addition of Okonkwo, would show that they mean business.

Indeed, somehow capturing Leonard over clubs such as LA FC and Vancouver would really make people stand up and applaud.
