"We started doing Shrek six months ago," Murphy admitted in a recent interview. "So, Shrek is coming back. So, we're doing another Shrek and we're doing a Donkeymovie. There's a Donkey, we have a Donkey movie. I love Shrek."

The first movie was extremely successful when it was released in 2001, leading to subsequent sequels in 2004, 2007 and 2010. Antonio Banderas' character of Puss also got his own 2011 flick Puss in Boots and 2022’s Puss in Boots: The Last Wish.

According to the funny man, the spinoff will center on "Donkey, well, his dragon wife, his half-dragon donkey children will be in it."

Murphy previously made it clear he would totally be down to jump back into the world of Shrek. "I'd absolutely be open if they ever came with another Shrek, I'd do it in two seconds. I love Donkey," he said in a 2023 interview. "You know, they did Puss in Boots movies...I was like, 'They should have done a Donkeymovie. Donkey is funnier than Puss in Boots.' I mean, I love Puss in Boots, but he ain't funny as the Donkey. DreamWorks, if you all want to do it, just call me. I'm ready. I'm sitting and ready to do Donkey."

The Saturday Night Live alum returning to one of his most iconic roles has been another success in his storied career. "Being able to make a living as an actor is a privilege and a blessing. And to make a living making people laugh, there’s no higher —you’re the luckiest person on Earth to be able to do that," Murphy expressed of his gratitude while picking up a Lifetime Achievement Award at the 2020 Critics' Choice Awards.

"And I’ve gotten to do so many different types of things. I’ve played everything. I’ve been a cop, a robber, a doctor, different ethnicities, animals. I’ve been a donkey. I’ve even played a spaceship once. When young actors come up to me on the streets and say, ‘Do you have any advice?’ I say, ‘Never play a spaceship,'" he jokingly told the audience.
