Can Mountain Dew, the famously sugary and highly caffeinated soft drink, cure purported dementia?
That seems to be the hypothesis of Rep. Erick Burlison (R-MO), who appeared on Fox Business on Tuesday to speculate about the kinds of "drugs" that President Joe Biden will supposedly take to improve his debate performance against former President Donald Trump on Thursday.
Host Maria Bartiromo — who helped cost her network hundreds of millions of dollars in a defamation lawsuit by airing false claims about Dominion Voting Systems that were peddled by a woman who believes she can speak with the wind — got the ball rolling by relaying speculation from Rep. Ronny Jackson (R-TX) that Biden and his medical physicians have spent the week at Camp David "experimenting with the doses" of drugs needed to get Biden ready to go to debate Trump.

Burlison said he agreed with such speculation.
"Any elderly individual, or someone who has dementia, they can find some moments of clarity, right?" he said. "They can find moments throughout the day that they have energy. ... I think Trump's team should not underestimate Joe Biden and his team's ability to, you know, whether they're going to jack him up on Mountain Dew or whatever it is, look, the State of the Union this year, he had a lot of energy for about an hour, an hour and a half."
Trump and his allies claimed that Biden was taking brain-enhancing drugs ahead of presidential debates back in 2020 as well, including the first 2020 debate that even many Trump allies at the time conceded was a disaster for the then-president.
So far, however, no evidence has emerged of Biden taking any special brain pills, let alone downing a case of Mountain Dew, to improve his debate performance.
