Report: Whether Manchester City are planning to open contract talks with Kevin De Bruyne soon

A fresh report has given an insight into the Kevin De Bruyne’s future in a Manchester City shirt.

The £54.5 million man is currently at the European Championship as he captains Belgium — as he would be hoping for Belgium to finish first in Group E.

Currently, the Belgians and Romania have the same number of points (three) and goal difference (plus one). Belgium and Romania face Ukraine and Slovakia respectively on Wednesday evening.

De Bruyne’s focus will be on ensuring that after Domenico Tedesco’s men beat Romania 2-0 last week, they can carry on their momentum with another convincing win against Ukraine.

Report reveals Kevin De Bruyne contract status amid Man City exit links

Recently, Eden Hazard was optimistic about Belgium’s chances of going far at Euro 2024 — stressing that his nation have been “the best player in the world” at their disposal in the 32-year-old.

The six-time Premier League winner will be hoping to return to Manchester will a smile on his face — regardless of how far Belgium fare if they end up making themselves proud in Germany.

On the Manchester City front, firstly, it has been claimed by The Athletic that with De Bruyne focused on the European Championship, there have been “no further developments” after he suggested that he would be keen to sign for a Saudi Pro League club.

More importantly, it has been reported that despite the midfield maestro’s contract set to expire in the summer of 2025, City are unlikely to enter fresh contract talks with him in the immediate future.

Kevin De Bruyne is showing at Euro 2024 why he should get new contract

Based on how De Bruyne has performed at Euro 2024 so far, Manchester City should be itching to tie him down to a new contract.

Perhaps at the end of last season, there were signs that the former VFL Wolfsburg poster-boy was way past his best.

But De Bruyne seems fully fit now and despite a decline in his athleticism, his displays against Slovakia and Ukraine have exemplified that he remains a brilliant chance-creator, passer, presser and final-third presence.

With the legendary midfielder still having the quality he does, it would be a huge risk for City to leave it too late before they tie him down to a contract extension.
