Report: What Archie Gray and his family think about a potential move to Borussia Dortmund this summer

Leeds United midfielder Archie Gray is wanted by several clubs including Borussia Dortmund this summer.

With clubs looking to take advantage of Leeds‘ failure to win promotion back to the Premier League, Gray is someone attracting plenty of interest right now.

It was reported at the weekend that Leeds could accept as little as £20 million for Gray but after signing a new long-term deal in January, and his incredible potential, that seems entirely inaccurate.

Instead, Leeds are expected to demand a ‘mammoth’ fee to even consider selling the 18-year-old, but that won’t stop interesting clubs from expressing an interest.

Alongside Dortmund, Tottenham Hotspur and Liverpool are just two of the Premier League sides who have also been linked with making a move this summer.

Gray and his family’s stance on Dortmund move this summer

It has already been reported that Gray is in no rush to push for a move away from Elland Road, having only just come off the back of his first season in senior football.

Gray is a boyhood fan of Leeds and his family’s name carries an incredible legacy at the club. They know his development would be better served playing regularly in West Yorkshire.

However, Dortmund have a track record of handing young English players the opportunity to play regularly at the top in recent years, before then moving onto bigger things.

Jude Bellingham is, of course, a clear example of that and according to Team Talk, Gray’s camp certainly have not ruled out a move to Dortmund this summer.

It is said that Gray’s family is well aware of the reputation in which Dortmund now have at developing young players, and know it would be unwise to completely ignore their advances.

Whether Dortmund can meet the asking price set by Leeds, though, remains another question, given they have so far been unable to complete deals for either Ian Maatsen or Jadon Sancho due to the fee.

Graeme Bailey says Gray eyeing positional change at Leeds

Despite all the talk surrounding where Gray might end up, the player himself is actually plotting a positional change under Daniel Farke at Leeds.

He spent much of last season at right-back but is very much primarily a central midfielder, and speaking exclusively to LeedsUnited.News, Graeme Bailey says that is where he wants to play next term.

He said: “Going forward I have been told he wants to play in midfield, will we see that happen this season at Leeds? It will be interesting. It wouldn’t surprise me if someone does test the water with him this summer, but I am not expecting him to leave.

“But never say never. I don’t think Leeds would let Gray go for less than £40m, even a £50m deal. They would want big, big money and rightly so.”
