GOP megadonor handed Trump $10M — despite him blowing off her single request: report

Republican megadonor Miriam Adelson, the wife of the late right-winger Sheldon Adelson, has given former President Donald Trump a whopping sum of money even as he has apparently blown off her request that he tone down his rhetoric.

The New York Times reports that Adelson earlier this year asked Trump to be "less bombastic" and then pledged to generously fund his campaign once the Republican primary ended.

Now that the general election season is in full swing, Adelson appears to be making good on her pledge even as Trump has, if anything, grown more bombastic with his regular campaign rants about shark attacks and freeing the "hostages" who were arrested for violently storming the United States Capitol on his behalf.

"Dr. Adelson has not pledged a certain sum — so far, she has donated less than $10 million to Preserve America, which has been resuscitated to again serve as her main political vehicle, a person with knowledge of the matter said — but her team is planning a budget of about $100 million, or a bit more than the Adelsons spent for Mr. Trump in 2020," reports the Times.

The Times' sources say that Adelson is particularly concerned with American policy toward Israel, as she staunchly opposes the creation of any kind of Palestinian state that she believes would pose a national security risk.

However, former Trump national security adviser John Bolton tells the Times that Adelson shouldn't trust a single thing that Trump says in an effort to pry more money from her hands.

“Trump says anything he thinks he can get away with to the audience at the time,” Bolton explained. “Anybody who puts stock in what he says in the morning is likely to be disappointed by the afternoon if he says something different to somebody else.”
