BJ Mack uses NIL earnings to help fulfill his father’s dream

B.J. Mack may have only played one season at South Carolina but it provided more than just memories that will last a life time.

During his time as a Gamecock, Mack was able to capitalize off of his name, image, and likeness (NIL). But instead of just spending that money on himself, he’s using those funds to help his father live out a dream. A dream that involves two passions that he learned from his father.

“He said dad, I want you to open a basketball themed barbershop with my NIL money,” said Brian Mack, BJ’s father. “You’ve invested in me and now I want to invest into something that will inspire others.”

The House of Hoops Barbershop is scheduled to open on Saturday, June 29th in Charlotte, NC. A barber fore more than 20 years, Brian Mack and his new barbershop will offer a unique opportunity to immerse oneself in the city’s storied basketball history while receiving haircuts in a warm and family-friendly environment.

“It’s a blessing,” BJ Mack told GamecockCentral. “To be able to use the money that I worked for, that he helped me work for, to be able to bless him and my family, it’s just great. It’s only gonna help keep the family business going.”

In addition to free haircuts being provided from noon-2 p.m. at Saturday’s grand opening, free shoes will always been given away to help upcoming basketball players who may not be able to afford multiple pairs of shoes.

“For me as a kid growing up it was hard for me to get basketball shoes to play in because my feet were so much bigger than everyone else’s… A lot fo my friends who live in Charlotte, and also some of my previous teammates will be coming out so we can give out shoes and provide guidance for younger guys who are coming up.”

Mack says if anyone is interested in donating either gently used or new basketball shoes, they can drop them off at the barbershop, which is located at 2504 Little Rock Rd Suite D, Charlotte, N.C. 28214. Or, they can contact Brian Mack at (704) 619-3113.
