For the past few months, former Donald Trump lawyer Michael Cohen has been protected from the former president's ire by a gag order put in place by the judge in the hush money case.

That ended on Tuesday.

Judge Juan Merchan issued the order to prevent Trump from attacking witnesses, jury members, court staff or their families. While most of the order remains until Trump is sentenced on July 11, the judge ruled Tuesday that Trump is no longer forbidden from talking about witnesses, as their role in the trial is complete.

Among those that are now fair comment for Trump's comments are Cohen and actress and director Stormy Daniels, both of whom were key defense witnesses.

In a statement to Raw Story, Cohen said, “For the past 6 years, Donald and acolytes have been making constant negative statements about me. Donald’s failed strategy of discrediting me so that he can avoid accountability didn’t work then and won’t work now."

Cohen, Trump's former fixer who served a prison sentence for his part in arranging hush money payments to Daniels to hide a sexual relationship, has been a top Trump foe since the early years of the administration when special counsel Robert Mueller uncovered the hush money scandal.

While Trump has protected others involved in his various scandals, he left Cohen to fend for himself. The one-time ally then turned to reveal everything he witnessed Trump doing over the years.

Trump hasn't yet gone after Daniels or Cohen on his personal social media platform.
