Report: 'Sublime' £50m star confident he'll finalise move to another club by July 14, after Man City offer

A player linked with Manchester City is said to be ‘confident’ that he will join another club by the end of Euro 2024.

It’s been a quiet summer so far on the transfers front for Manchester City.

It was perhaps always likely to be this way given there are two international tournaments taking place at the moment.

But there has been speculation about new players coming to City every day since the end of the 2023/24 season.

And one player who City have been linked with is RB Leipzig star Dani Olmo, who is currently on duty with Spain at Euro 2024.

Supposedly, City have had Olmo on their radar, but a new report from Spain appears to suggest a move to the Etihad Stadium for the player is unlikely.

It has been claimed by SPORT today that Olmo is looking likely to make a move to Barcelona this summer.

The attacking midfielder has a release clause of around £50 million, and Barcelona are currently trying to put things in place to trigger that clause.

It is stated that Olmo is ‘confident’ that a move to Barca will be finalised for him by the end of the Euros on July 14. The Catalan giants are said to have made the signing of Olmo a priority.

The 26-year-old is apparently looking to take a leap now, and seal an exit from RB Leipzig, who he’s been with since 2020.

Interestingly, SPORT add in their report that Olmo wants to take that leap ‘despite having an important offer from Manchester City’.

It had been reported before that City had held talks to sign Olmo, but he was never considered a priority signing.

Olmo looks set for return to Spain

We will see if this does actually come to fruition, because everyone knows about Barcelona’s financial issues.

But this report does strongly suggest he will be heading to Barcelona this summer, and that was perhaps to be expected, since Olmo did come from their academy.

Seemingly, City made an offer for Olmo, although there were no further details provided, just that there was one.

He would have been a really good signing for City. Against Albania on Monday, he was described as ‘exceptional’ by SPORT, and ‘sublime’ by Estadio Deportivo, and he is the technical, hardworking kind of player Pep Guardiola really likes.

He has stood out for a long time at Leipzig, and he deserves a crack at playing for a bigger club.
