X reacts as struggling England advance as group winners despite Slovenia draw

England sealed their place as Group C winners with a 0-0 draw against Slovenia that, once again, left fans wanting a whole lot more.

For the third game in a row, England made incredibly hard work of a game for which they were supposed to be heavy favourites, and supporters on social media did not hold back with their assessment of the team.

Despite the tactical tweak of introducing Conor Gallagher in place of Trent Alexander-Arnold, England got off to another horrible start, with Benjamin Sesko coming close to opening the scoring in the opening stages.

Bukayo Saka thought he had scored 20 minutes in with England's first actual glimpse of goal, only for a quick offside flag to quickly end the celebrations.

It was a glimpse of what England could do when they started playing quickly, but for whatever reason, that was the last time we saw the Three Lions try to ramp up the pace.

At the interval, Gareth Southgate went for another roll of the dice, withdrawing Gallagher and introducing Manchester United's Kobbie Mainoo in his place.

That tweak brought a brief moment of positivity, with Mainoo looking confident on the ball and actually making things happen in the opening stages of the second half.

The youngster looks to have done enough to earn a start in the knockout stages.

However, despite the odd glimpse of Mainoo's quality, this was yet another woeful performance from England.

The Three Lions may be through to the knockout stages, but this is where things start to get interesting.

Limping past Slovenia is one thing, but a similar level of performance against superior opposition could lead to a brutal time in the next round.
