TV star turned down two opportunities before Real Housewives as she 'wasn't mentally ready'

Guerdy Abraira is the party-planning sensation of The Real Housewives of Miami! She may be gracing our screens now – but originally turned down two initial opportunities because she was not ready.

The Real Housewives of Miami star was “always destined for TV,” her husband believes. Guerdy Abraira practically could not escape reality show opportunities, so when RHOM came up, she was raring to go.

Guerdy Abraira turned down opps

When Guerdy became known across Miami for her sensational parties, she received and turned down two opportunities to be on TV, which came before she gained fame on Peacock show, RHOM.

She told the Check-In With Bryan and Jeremy podcast, “That was more like a Jeff Lewis situation or like, a Rachel Zo project where it was literally me and my staff and ‘Let’s look at you go’.”

However, Guerdy thought to herself that she “wasn’t ready” as it was a “team effort with her husband and family”. She added, “At that point, it was very scary because, you know what, it could make or break you.”]

Hubby said she’s ‘made for TV’

Guerdy’s husband, Russell, once told her that she’s “made for TV”. He was right, because when RHOM came along, she liked how it was a “balance of getting to know the personal me and my career”.

When the opportunity arose, she thought, “People could understand where I’m coming from when I do certain things or the way I roll, so I really didn’t even think twice until I spoke to Russell.”

She asked if her husband was okay, to which he told her it was “inevitable she was always going to be on TV no matter what because of her personality”. Russell encouraged her to “share that with the world”.

Facial expressions are genuinely real

Guerdy claims her facial expressions are genuinely real and remained adamant that RHOM is not scripted or produced. The one thing she did admit is that the series is “coordinated” so cameras can be set up.

She said, “You have to make sure you’re going to be home around this time frame, so you expect something. So, you know, coordination is what I call it but it’s not produced.”

The TV star claims producers don’t tell you to “look angry or tear up in 3, 2, 1,” adding that she doesn’t need to “overdramatize” her facial expressions because she’s a “walking comic” already.
