ICE Texas Removes Guatemalan Fugitive Wanted For Aggravated Theft

U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement's (ICE) Enforcement and Removal Operations (ERO) Houston field office, working alongside ERO Guatemala and the Security Alliance for Fugitive Enforcement (SAFE) Task Force, removed a Guatemalan fugitive wanted for aggravated theft from the United States on June 24th.

The fugitive, identified as 30-year-old Jose Estuardo Aguilar, was unlawfully present in the U.S. Border Patrol apprehended Aguilar on the same day he entered the country, likely in an attempt to evade prosecution in Guatemala.

On January 4th, 2024, Aguilar was transferred to ERO Houston's custody.

Following an immigration court hearing on June 4th, an immigration judge with the Department of Justice's Executive Office for Immigration Review ordered Aguilar's removal from the United States.

ERO officers executed this order on June 24th, flying Aguilar on a charter flight coordinated by ICE's Air Operations Unit from Alexandria International Airport in Louisiana to La Aurora International Airport in Guatemala City, Guatemala.

“This foreign fugitive fled Guatemala and illegally entered the U.S. hoping to evade prosecution for his alleged crimes,” said ERO Houston Field Office Director Bret A. Bradford. “Thanks to outstanding teamwork between our ICE officers and their domestic and international partners we were able to quickly identify the active warrant and keep him in custody until we could safely repatriate him to Guatemala to face justice.”

Aguilar illegally entered the United States on Jan. 3, near Eagle Pass, Texas, without admission, inspection or parole by an immigration officer. U.S. Border Patrol apprehended him the same day.
