South Florida tight end Teigan Martin died early Monday morning in a single-vehicle crash while back in his home state of Minnesota, according to a report from KSTP in Minneapolis. He was 20.

First responders were called to the scene at 5:05 a.m. in Carver County. They discovered a BMW M5 that had crashed into a ditch. Investigators determined that the vehicle was speeding eastbound when it crossed over the center line and into the ditch.

Martin died at the scene. It is unclear whether alcohol was involved in the crash.

The tight end was preparing to enter his second season at USF after transferring from Liberty in 2023. He did not appear in any games for the Bulls this past year.

Martin attended Lutheran High School in Mayer, Minnesota, where he was a three-star prospect. He ranked as the No. 1,196 overall player and No. 121 tight end in the 2022 cycle according to the On3 Industry Ranking, a weighted average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies.

Martin helped lead his high school to a state championship as a senior while playing both tight end and defensive tackle. He was an all-state selection and also had a scholarship offer to play basketball at Western Illinois.

Funeral services for Martin will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, June 29 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Waconia, Minnesota.
