Declan Rice ‘would love’ Arsenal target in his XI as Chelsea decision opens PSR boost

A round-up of the latest Arsenal news as Declan Rice admits he ‘would love’ a target in his XI and Fabrizio Romano delivers an update about boss Mikel Arteta’s new contract.

Chelsea open a door to boost Arsenal’s PSR situation with Omari Hutchinson’s transfer

Chelsea have sent Ipswich Town their asking price for the transfer of Omari Hutchinson. The Blues’ decision has also opened a door to boost the situation London rival Arsenal face with profit and sustainability rules (PSR) as they fly close to the Premier League’s limit for losses.

Premier League squads can lose £105m over any three-season accounting period. But Adam Williams, TBR Football’s finance expert, has exclusively told Arsenal Insider that Arsenal are ‘towards the upper limit’ for PSR. Yet Chelsea selling Hutchinson may help the Gunners out.

According to football.london, Ipswich are keen to sign Hutchinson permanently after his 10 goals and six assists helped them to secure promotion from the Championship. But Chelsea are seeking £30m to sell the Jamaica maestro with Arsenal due a fee due to a sell-on clause.

Arsenal are relaxed about Mikel Arteta’s contract situation

Arsenal are relaxed that Mikel Arteta is yet to sign a new contract with their manager going into the final year of his current deal. That is according to Fabrizio Romano, who claims that the Gunners are likely to reach an agreement with the Spanish tactician for new terms soon.

Initial talks between Arsenal and Arteta’s agents started at the close of the domestic season. Both parties believe strongly in the project that has turned the Emirates Stadium club into a Premier League title contender. Arsenal even believe Arteta is not considering leaving them.

Further discussions are due to follow to confirm the terms of any extension for Arteta in N5. But Romano believes it is only ‘a matter of time’ before the 42-year-old puts pen to paper to a new deal. Arsenal last gave the boss a fresh contract in May 2022, running to June 2025.

Declan Rice ‘would love’ Arsenal target Conor Gallagher in his team

England star Declan Rice ‘would love’ Chelsea vice-captain Conor Gallagher in his side, amid Arsenal targeting the midfielder’s transfer. Reports by AS have credited the Gunners, as well as Atletico Madrid, West Ham United and Tottenham Hotspur, with requesting information.

Gallagher is currently focused on Euro 2024 but has an uncertain future at Stamford Bridge as Chelsea bid to raise funds. The Blues believe his transfer can raise €50m (£42m) in pure profit as an academy graduate. So, Chelsea rejected Atletico’s initial bid worth €20m (£17m).

Interest from Aston Villa, Manchester United and Newcastle further supports Chelsea’s price tag. Rice has also now given Arsenal a glowing scouting report of all that Gallagher can bring to north London. He is a huge fan of the 24-year-old Rice played with for Chelsea’s academy.

“I’ve played against him when he was at Crystal Palace and Chelsea and I’ve played with him in the academy team,” Rice told BBC Sport. “He is a player I would love to have in my team.

“He works his socks off. You feel so safe and secure in there with him. He has surprised so many people this year with his ability on the ball, how he breaks forward with it, how he gets into the box and scores goals.”
