'Scares the opponent': Manager urged to keep starting £55m Man City player at Euro 2024

A manager at Euro 2024 has been urged to star a Manchester City player every single game.

It has been a terrific tournament so far, with most of the games out in Germany being highly entertaining.

Plenty of goals have been scored so far, and it has been a decent tournament on the whole for Manchester City players up to this point.

At the weekend, Belgium were in action for the second time, against Romania.

They had got off to a bad start by losing 1-0 to Slovakia. But they recovered against Romania, beating them 2-0.

Across both of those games, City winger Jeremy Doku has been very lively – and Domenico Tedesco has now been urged to keep playing the livewire.

Doku has started both of Belgium’s games so far, and drawn praise for his performances.

He made a mistake leading to Slovakia’s goal in the opener, but that aside he was a real livewire and it was the same story against Romania.

After the game with Romania, a statistic emerged that Doku had completed the most take-ons of any player at the tournament, and was fourth for most chances created.

Pundit Karen Carney branded him ‘exquisite’ after the win over Romania, and the former Rennes star does appear to be playing with a lot of confidence right now.

Belgian publication Walfoot have published some quotes from winger Clement Tainmont, a French player who has spent the last 10 years of his career playing in Belgium.

He has been very impressed with City’s £55 million man.

He reckons Tedesco must keep starting him because of his ability to attract more than one defender. he said: “For me, he has to start every game because he scares the opponent. In the way he plays, he is capable of doing a lot of damage.”

“Even if we are in a match where we will see him less, the simple fact of seeing him touch the ball will attract 2 players to him, or even 3 players with the contribution of a Belgian player at his back.

“This frees up space for others in attacking situations. And that seems very interesting to me. And in the match against Romania, we saw that he was able to offer different things.”

Doku looks fantastic

Doku still has a lot of work to do on his end product, but his talent is undeniable.

The youngster is very unique with that rapid acceleration and trickery, and it is exciting to think about how he could develop in the coming years. Hopefully, as Ange Postecoglou said at the weekend, Doku can keep playing with the shackles off.

He can be pretty pleased with his first season at City.

He came for big money and into a team that had just won a Treble. So there was instant pressure, but Doku never appeared too fazed in his first term.
