Lisandro Martinez sends poignant seven-word message after Argentina win vs Chile, Man Utd teammate instantly reacts

Alejandro Garnacho sent Manchester United teammate Lisandro Martinez a message after Argentina defeated Chile 1-0 at the 2024 Copa America in the United States.

Both Lisandro Martinez and Alejandro Garnacho were named in Lionel Scaloni’s 26-man squad for Argentina’s Copa America title defence this summer.

Martinez has emerged as a key defensive figure for Argentina boss Lionel Scaloni and played the full 90 minutes in both Copa America matches for his country.

The Manchester United defender impressed with his superb performance in Argentina’s 2-0 Group A opener against Canada at the Mercedes-Benz Stadium.

Martinez returned to the starting XI for Argentina’s second consecutive match at the Copa America and partnered alongside Cristian Romero in the heart of defence.

The 26-year-old Argentine centre-back produced another solid display against Chile, with Lautaro Martinez scoring the winner for the 2021 Copa America champions.

Martinez and Garnacho share messages

Argentina’s 1-0 win over Chile at the MetLife Stadium on Wednesday ensured Lionel Scaloni’s men would reach the quarter-finals of the Copa America.

The 2022 World Cup champions are currently top of Group A and will face Peru on 30th June ahead of playing in the knockout rounds of the competition.

Lisandro Martinez took to Instagram and posted an emotionally charged message after Argentina defeated Chile in their second Group A fixture.

“All together, all united!!! Come on damn!!!” he wrote, as per a rough translation.

Manchester United star Alejandro Garnacho, unlike Martinez, has been unable to secure regular playing time for Argentina at this summer’s Copa America.

The 19-year-old Spain-born winger has been an unused substitute in Argentina’s Copa America matches against Canada and Chile.

Despite his lack of involvement in the Copa America, Garnacho took to Instagram and reacted to Martinez’s post by leaving a message in the comments.

The United winger simply wrote: “El 1.”

Scaloni on Argentina win vs Chile

Lionel Scaloni admitted that Argentina earned a “well-deserved” victory and the match against Chile was “not easy” for La Albiceleste.

“It was a well-deserved win,” he said, as per Yahoo Sport.

“The truth is that the match was not easy and we won in the least expected moment, I would say.

“But as always the team kept believing and kept attacking even though they started to stretch a bit more in the last 10 or 12 minutes.”
