Rose Fair will see Wisbech filled with fun events across the town

Wisbech Rose Fair is finally set to return this weekend (Saturday) after a break of five years – and it promises to be full of fun.

This year there will be a walking parade of groups, organisations, and volunteers headed by Rose Queen, Ella Stanier a 17-year-old student at Meadowgate Academy.

The parade will take place twice – as is the tradition – once at 11am and then again at 2pm and it will also include donkeys.

Ella Stanier is this year's rose Queen and she will be heading the two parades on Saturday.

The town will be filled with activities from flower displays, cream teas and light lunches in the Trinity Methodist Church, and also flowers in the Baptist Church, to live music in Museum Square.

Historic vehicles will be on display in The Crescent and there’s a chance to go fossil hunting in Market Street, where there will also be a live dinosaur show.

Stalls, flower making and a giant tortoise will be in St Peter’s Garden, while the Castle is the venue for an historic and military re-enactment.

The Militias of Anglia will be at the Castle to welcome you to an immersive historical free event showcasing professional re-enactors wearing periodic accurate clothing demonstrating authentic skills and crafts from the era on Saturday from 10am for Rose Fair, and again on Sunday at the same time.

Peckover House will have its gardens open for a Rose Walk, and there is an open day at the Angles Theatre.

The Luxe cinema in Alexandra Road will have its doors open to celebrate Rose Fair with a showcase of images and videos that have been captured over the years. It is a free event and each loop of images lasts about 20 minutes. Refreshments will be available at the bar.

Showings of the photos that have been sent in by local residents as well as photographer Roger Rawson as well as Wisbech Museum will run on Friday, June 28: 10.15-11.15am; Saturday, June 29: 9.30-11am and Sunday, June 30: 9:30-11am.

Saturday’s fun will also feature a daring performance by the Blue Barrow display team, made up of local Royal Air Force cadets in the Market Place.

The whole event has been put together by volunteers led by Wisbech Town Council, which stepped in to save the Rose Fair after it looked like ending for good.
