Jamie Carragher claims one Arsenal star has had 'minimal impact' for his country at Euro 2024

Jamie Carragher has suggested that one Arsenal player has done little to impress his country at Euro 2024 this summer.

The Gunners are one of the biggest represented clubs at the competition with 11 players, with the likes of William Saliba and Kai Havertz already impressing for their countries having booked their ticket to the next round of the Euros.

With Declan Rice and Bukayo Saka managing the same for England last night, there remains a good chance that Arsenal will have a player returning this summer as a European champion given how the knockout stage is looking.

Yet Carragher has been critical of one Arsenal player at the Euros this summer.

Saka slammed for England performances after ‘outstanding’ Arsenal season

Writing for the Telegraph, the former Liverpool defender was critical of how Saka has performed for England at the Euros, with the Arsenal winger enduring a tough game last night against Slovenia.

Whilst Saka was impressive against Serbia, the 22-year-old was noticeably off the boil in games against Denmark and Slovenia, and Carragher has now shared his thoughts on Saka’s performances this summer.

Carragher said on Saka at the Euros: “Saka is outstanding for Arsenal. He has had minimal impact in the past two-and-a-half games. At what point do we take a step back and agree that the underperformance is as much about individuals as the tactics?

“Whether Southgate goes with a 4-3-3 or 4-2-3-1, England need their top-class players delivering. With the exception of Trent Alexander-Arnold in the first two games (and Kieran Trippier due to the lack of fit left-backs), none of them are being asked to do anything so different to what they do for their clubs.”

Saka knows he can show England fans and pundits how good he is

As mentioned by Carragher, Saka’s overall performance at the Euros has been disappointing, likewise with every other England player in what has been a torrid spectacle for fans of the Three Lions.

Yet heading into the knockout stages and the biggest games of the tournament, Saka knows he has the quality to show just how good he is and how he can turn fans and pundits back onto his side.

Indeed, Saka was one of the best players in the Premier League this season and is one of the most dangerous attackers in the world, and the 22-year-old will want to prove his worth in the coming games with England.

Arsenal winners and losers at Euro 2024

In this week’s episode, Will Jones and Rahul Lakhani discussed the first few days of the European Championships. With Arsenal players such as Kai Havertz and Kieran Tierney experiencing mixed starts to the tournament, the pair assessed which Gunners were the winners and losers from the group stages so far.

There was some talk about transfers based off the Euros, with Arsenal-linked Amadou Onana’s display for Belgium discussed, whilst Leandro Trossard’s poor performance was analysed, and Bukayo Saka’s sensational England showing lauded.
