Argentina into Copa America quarters after 1-0 win over Chile

Copa America defending champions Argentina secured a sport in the quarter-finals with one game to spare after a 1-0 defeat against Chile on Tuesday evening.

Inter Milan's Lautaro Martínez scored a late goal in the 87th minute to secure the three points as Argentina are the first team to advance to the knock-out stages of the competition in the United States.

Argentina defeated Canada 2-0 in their opening match. In the final Group A game on Saturday they face Peru.

With 15 titles, Argentina are tied with Uruguay as joint Copa America record champions.

There was some concern over assistant referee Humberto Panjoj after he keeled over and fainted during the first half of the game, being played in hot and humid conditions at Children’s Mercy Park in Kansas City.

The Guatemalan official was treated on the side lines and briefly got back on his feet before being taken off on a stretcher.
