Explosive 14-goal winger’s training absence explained amid ‘advanced’ links to Rangers

Rangers are reportedly stretching their transfer net far and wide in the hunt for new talent this summer.

Nils Koppen and the rest of the Rangers recruitment board are tasked with revamping an Ibrox squad which has watched on helplessly as Celtic romp to a third straight title.

With an ageing team letting the supporters down for the final time, the nerves are jangling as Rangers head into an uncertain period.

But whilst young stars with high sell-on values are the talk of the steamie, there is a more senior attacking player Rangers were strongly linked to last month.

Malian international Adama Traore was said to be in ‘advanced’ talks over a switch to Rangers only a few weeks ago.

And now the Ferencvaros winger’s pre-season training camp absence has been explained by the Hungarian champions.

Traore back at Ferencvaros

As we reported earlier in the week, Adama Traore was one of three players who missed the start of Ferencvaros’ pre-season training camp.

Rangers links to the 29-year-old Malian winger – who is something of a Champions League qualification specialist – have gone cold in recent weeks.

So you’ll forgive bluenoses for having their heads turned when Traore failed to turn up for pre-season training.

But now the winger has traveled to Austria alongside teammates Mohamed Ali Ben Romdhane and Myenty Abena.

In a message on Facebook, not only did the Hungarian champions confirm Traore’s return, but they explained the absence of all three players.

The trio had been given extended leave after being called up for international duties at the end of the season.

Transfer transfer links go cold

Adama Traore certainly doesn’t look like he’s in ‘advanced’ talks to go anywhere this summer.

The Malian winger is one of Ferencvaros’s key players when fit with the explosive attacker netting an impressive 14 goals in 27 games last season.

Rangers meanwhile continue to step up their transfer hunt for new players after adding only three fresh faces to the club’s ranks this summer.

Brazilian left-back Jefte, AC Milan defender Clinton Nsiala and Aberdeen midfielder Connor Barron have all joined the club.

A deal to bring Moroccan striker Hamza Igamane to Glasgow is reportedly edging closer whilst links to Liam Kelly and Kenny McLean persist in the media.

As far as wingers go, Bayern Munich talent Yusuf Kabadayi has been strongly linked with a move.
