£25m player who Pep Guardiola ‘loves’ is getting closer to leaving Bayern Munich and he wants to join Liverpool

Liverpool have rebuilt themselves a reputation that has made them an attractive proposition for any top player to join.

10 years ago – or even less – the Reds were not a team that were a serious consideration for stars looking to leave their clubs.

But after Jurgen Klopp reinvigorated the club and put them back at the top of the world game, Liverpool are once again in the mix for the very best players in the world.

Generally, the Reds don’t really exercise that position. The Liverpool owners have a very clear recruitment strategy which does not often include bringing in big names on even higher wages.

However, the signing of Thiago Alcantara back in 2020 proved that if the conditions are right, they might just do it. And according to reports this week, another star could now swap the Allianz Arena for Anfield.

Joshua Kimmich keen on Liverpool transfer

Liverpool’s transfer strategy does at times draw criticism from supporters. There is an argument that perhaps the Reds are a little too cautious in the market.

It could also be said that Liverpool would possibly benefit take one or two more gambles when adding to their first-team squad.

As a result of the way FSG like to work, fans will have become used to auto-deleting some transfer rumours when they appear in the press.

Sometimes, you simply know that a move is not going to happen. Liverpool do not tend to go for players over the age of 25 or 26, for example, and won’t usually bring someone in who’s already on a high wage packet.

Consequently, many will likely have already dismissed the rumours linking Bayern Munich’s Joshua Kimmich with a move to Liverpool. Nevertheless, according to journalist Florian Plettenberg on X, it now looks quite likely that Kimmich will leave.

“As revealed and now confirmed again: Joshua Kimmich could leave FC Bayern already this summer!” says Plettenberg. “Kimmich, captain and regular starter, can leave the club with a suitable offer.

“No Bayern plans about a contract extension beyond 2025. Vincent Kompany with other plans for central midfield. Joao Palhinha, still the desired target!” he adds.

“A separation between Kimmich/Bayern is getting closer. Now or next year at the latest. Kimmich would be ready to go into the final year of his contract. He only wants to join Man City, Liverpool, Arsenal, Real Madrid or Barcelona.”

What are the chances of Joshua Kimmich joining Liverpool?

Given the list of clubs Kimmich is reportedly keen to join, the chances of Liverpool winning the race are just one in five.

However, just because Kimmich fancies a move to Anfield does not mean that he’s a target for Liverpool.

Of those five clubs mentioned, you could imagine the 29-year-old moving to any of them before he joined Arne Slot.

For the price-tag – which the Daily Star report to be around £25m – Kimmich would no doubt be a very good signing. But given his wage demands and also the make-up of the Liverpool squad right now, we’d be amazed to see this happen.
